Part 1. How to use Home Sharing on your iPad and iPhone.
Before iOS 4.3, Home Sharing was only for PCs, but now you can share any computer’s iTunes library with your iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch over your Wi-Fi network. This allows you to access more music, movies, or podcasts from multiple computers without burdening your device’s storage. Once you set up your Home Sharing account on your computers and devices, sharing is easy. Here’s how to do it:
Part 2. Enable Home Sharing on your Computer.
1. Open iTunes on your computer. Note that you’ll need iTunes 10.2 or later to set up home sharing.
2. Choose Advanced > Turn On Home Sharing.
3. Enter your Apple ID and password that you use for the iTunes Store, then click Create Home Share.
Part 3. Set up Home Sharing on iPad/iPhone.
1. On your iPad, tap Settings > iPod.
2. In the Home Sharing section, enter the same Apple ID and password you entered on your Mac and tap the return button.
To listen to shared music on your iPad/iPhone, tap on iPod > Library and select a shared library.
To watch shared videos on your iPad, tap on Videos > Shared and select a shared library.
Part 4. Be aware of two restrictions to iTunes sharing.
1. You can only listen to shared iTunes libraries on your network (on your wireless network, in your house, in your office, etc.). This is great for larger offices or dorms. If you’d like to watch movies on iPad when traveling on board, it’s better to sync local movies to iPad.
2. You cannot listen to iTunes Store-purchased songs from another computer unless your computer has been authorized to play that content. But there is third-party application for you to bypass the authorization.
