The origin and meaning of Apple products’ “i”

For those consumers who love technology products, is believed to have heard of iPhone, iPod, iPad, iMac these names. It is not difficult to find, these four products have one thing in common, product name begins with a lowercase letter “i“. Then, what’s the meaning of “i”?

In 1998, Steve Jobs introduced to the world a unique one desktop – iMac. It is the first time we saw the letter “i” in Apple products. Since then, each iOS device extend the “i” until now. In that conference, Steve Jobs said, iMac is the perfect combination product of Internet and Macintosh. The meaning of the letter i, including Internet, Individual, Instruct, Inform, and Inspire.

Jobs explained, there is also a deep meaning for us.  Although we are a PC company, products are just born for the network, except that, we also consider these products as independent artwork, we can use the iMac in the network (Internet) to obtain large amounts of information (Information), it can stimulate (Inspire) us to create a better product in the future.
